Fundraiser GuidanceSince the beginning of the year, I have had the exciting experience of working strategically on two fundraisers. In January, Heart to Heart (International Children’s Medical Alliance) held a dinner fundraiser, Into the Heartland, and I “kuhncepted” nametags and thank-you gifts (that doubled as place cards) – both using U.S. postage stamps. I also collaborated with the Executive Director on the keepsake program for the evening and acted as liaison with Joey’s Corner on the design and production of all materials. For the Joey’s Corner inaugural fundraiser on February 9, I worked with Michael Osborne on the invitation and event collateral. Dovetailing with the event, I interviewed board members and clients to expand content for the website: www.joeyscorner.org. My projects for these two non-profit organizations will continue throughout 2006, and I will soon be able to show-and-tell more about this work. Polking Around 94109I spent a full month this past summer in The 94109 {an area of San Francisco transected by Polk Street}, recuperating from hip surgery at The Broadmoor, a retirement hotel on the southeast corner of Sutter at Gough. My crutches and I became denizens of two eateries in particular that I hadn’t previously been to. I have been back to both several times since, and will recommend them in delicious detail, in the forthcoming Polking Around 94109, which will appear on this very site in time for the Rites of Spring. I beg your pardon? You’re hungry now? Ah Lin – The Chinese restaurant to which I hobbled, chaperoned by my sister, the very night of my release from the hospital. It was worth every little step. Its not unattractive business card proclaims The Mandarin Cooking. I recently organized a Saturday lunch party for 13 at Ah Lin, and The Mandarin was cooking! Saha – The Yemeni restaurant in the recently refabbed Hotel Carlton. Cous-cous beaucoup, plus fattoush, fouel (pronounced fool) and little lambie sausages. Very fun for three people who like to share. And the most interesting breakfast I’ve had in the City outside The 94107. I will also rave about Polk-a-dot Stationers, mourn the end of an era at Leonard’s 2001, and rhapsodize about Little Thai and Nick’s Crispy Tacos. Paris ParticularsFor over a quarter of a century, I have periodically revised my Paris notes for traveling friends, their friends, and their friends’ friends. Now, I am organizing my highly-arbitrary notes into a cyber-something-to-be-determined. Probably not in time for this April in Paris, but très bientôt.
